Healthy Living Survey

Good morning, friends!

Here we are at Friday again. Glorious, glorious Friday. Oh, how I love thee. Oh, I love Fridays when I only have to work half a day, too! I will be heading into work around noon to spend a few hours getting caught up on some work and answering any calls that come into office. Our doctor is away at a conference so my co-worker and I decided to split the duties of the day with each other.

Since today is Friday and Fridays always call for fun, I thought I would share a great survey that I saw on Tina’s blog earlier in the week. I had a post planned that was more on the serious side, but I just can’t bring myself to be a downer on a Friday…so we’ll save that for later…like a rainy Monday or something! So, anyway, enough with the blabbering…let’s get to it!

1. What did you eat for breakfast?

A piece of whole-wheat toast covered with peach preserves, three slices of turkey bacon, and a cup of coffee with creamer.

2. How much water do you drink a day?

NOT ENOUGH. Drinking enough water has been something that I have struggled with and that I try to work on every day. I have set a goal for myself to try to drink 100 ounces a day, but I usually only end up making it to 50-60. Fail. I don’t know why it’s so hard for me! Any tips on how I can make myself get more!?

3. What is your current favorite workout?

Turbo Fire. I had wanted to try Turbo Fire forever and they had an awesome deal on set for Black Friday so I dove right in and bought it. I am loving every workout! And, I can’t forget Jazzercise…my first passion.

4. How many calories do you eat a day?

Honestly, I have no idea. I have never counted my calories and I don’t plan on starting. I try to eat clean and healthy while allowing some room for treats. I believe whole heartedly in moderation.

5. What are your favorite healthy snacks?

Apples with nut butter, carrots with hummus, celery and PB, almonds, whole-wheat pretzels dipped in mustard, and protein smoothies

6. What do you usually eat for lunch?

Most days I either make myself some type of salad from home or grab one from the salad bar at work. I find that salads loaded with fresh veggies fill me up and is a great way get a satisfying lunch that will give me energy to get through my afternoon.

7. What is your favorite body part to strength train?

My upper-body, hands down. I love to concentrate on my shoulders and my back, which are my favorite parts of my body. I love how quickly I can see results, but physically and in the amount of strength I have!

8. What is your least favorite body part to strength train?

Anything but my upper torso? Seriously, though, I would have to say my abs. While I love working them and feeling the burn and soreness that comes along, results are very slow and hard to come by and I tend to get frustrated with my lack of definition.

9. What are your ‘bad’ food cravings?

Pasta, bread, creamy sauces, and gravy. Mmmmm. I can feel my arteries clogging but I just.cannot.help.it.

10. Do you take vitamins or supplements?

I try. I really do try. I try to take a multi-vitamin and a B12 but I do not take them on a regular basis. I just can’t remember. I took vitamins while I was growing up because my mom handed them to me. I think I need to hire a ‘vitamin-giver’…you know, someone to just come in and hand my vitamins in the morning. Even though that would be a little creep-tastic, at least I would have my vitamins!

11. How often do you eat out?

Lee and I have really cut back in recent months. We used to go out at least 2-3 times a week, but in an effort to save money, we may go out once a week and sometimes we don’t even do that. I am really proud of the way we have gotten used to preparing meals at home and working on our budget!

12. Do you eat fast food?

Very, very rarely. The last time I had fast food was when Lee and I grabbed breakfast on our way to a Pittsburgh Steelers game. Before that, I can’t remember the last time I had it.

13. Who is your biggest supporter?

No question. Lee. I don’t know what I would do without him. He is my partner in crime and supports my career, my blog, my fitness goals, and even, my craziness. He is an absolute saint!

14. Do you have a gym membership?

Not at the moment. I used to have one a couple of years ago when I was not working and just in school part-time. I would go every morning and teach Jazzercise every night. Now, with my job and teaching Jazzercise, I cannot squeeze in time. Plus, we have a full gym upstairs in our garage…but it’s SO difficult to go there and workout! Why is that!?

15. How many hours of sleep do you get a night?

I am so embarrassed to admit this one. I KNOW sleep is so important and that 7-8 hours is recommended, however, I usually get 4-5 hours a night. I am a total night owl but also have to wake up at 4:45am for work…I try to get in bed at an earlier hour but I am such a busy bee at night and I find it hard to slow down! Just one more thing I have to work on, I guess!

16. Do you have a ‘cheat’ day?

I don’t. As I said earlier, I believe in total moderation and always try to eat clean and healthy while allowing room for cravings and treats. If I want a piece of chocolate every day, I will have one!

17. Do you drink alcohol?

Yes, I do. I am a lover of wine and gin and tonics (yes, I am an old man). Usually, I only drink socially while we are out with our friends.

18. Do you have a workout buddy?

I do! All of my great clients and fellow instructors at Jazzercise!

19. What is the best thing that has changed about your life since committing to a Healthy Lifestyle?

I have always tried to live a healthy lifestyle but, recently, I have really come to realize the total body benefits that have come from my hard work. Last year, I got a new life insurance policy that had a rate based on my current health and, therefore, required blood work. When I received my rate, I was placed in an ‘Elite’ status, meaning that was at the peak of great health. Seeing the great numbers from my labs, I have such an appreciation for my body and the way I take care of it. A healthy diet and exercise really does make a difference…both physically and mentally!

20. What was the last healthy thing you did?

Woke up this morning with a smile on my face and a positive attitude to start to the day!
